Barstow Harvey House

No visit to Barstow is complete without a stop at this wonderful historic building. Opened in 1911, the building today looks almost exactly as it did when it served as the city’s railway depot, hotel for train passengers and main ballroom for dances and social events. Today, Harvey House serves as the Greyhound and Amtrak stations and houses the Mother Road Route 66 Museum and Western America Railroad Museum.

Calico Ghost Town

A bona fide mid-1800’s silver mining town that went bust soon after silver lost its value, Calico emerged from its ghost town days to become one of Barstow’s most-visited attractions. Plumb the depths of Maggie's Mine or check out the historic exhibits at the Lane House Museum. Hop aboard the antique mining train for a loop around town or browse the shops and restaurants lining the dusty main thorough fare.

Tanger Outlets

Browse for bargains at brand name shops like the Banana Republic Factory Store, Coach, Nike, Old Navy, Sunglass Hut and more.

Barstow Route 66 Museum

Travel back to a time when Route 66 was America’s “Mother Road” (according to John Steinbeck). Explore fascinating artifacts and exhibits chronicling the famous highway's history, from California’s pioneer era right up through the present day.

Mojave Desert and Rainbow Basin

If you’ve ever watched a movie taking place on Mars, odds are it was filmed here. Located eight miles from Barstow, this eerie, surreal and unbelievably beautiful landscape is distinguished by the enormous multicolored stone slabs jutting from the earth at odd angles. Explore the rainfall-carved canyons and you might stumble across mastodon and bear dog fossils that have been lying in wait for almost 20 million years.

Stoddard Valley Offroading OHV Area

For visitors with access to a motorcycle or ATV, this is the place to cut loose. Located in the Mojave Desert, its terrain features steep, rocky ridges, rolling hills, open valleys, and winding, sandy washes. Best of all, there are no fees to enter and few riding restrictions once you do.
